Curt Stauffer, Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Seven Summits Capital, began his financial services career nearly forty years ago as a Credit Analyst trainee at what was then one of the top credit analysis training programs in the country. That training, combined with a thorough understanding of credit underwriting, enables Seven Summits Capital to adopt a distinctive approach to building and managing fixed-income portfolios. Working with our long-time preferred bond brokerage firm, we can continuously source both tax-free municipal and taxable corporate and municipal bonds for our client portfolios. When the use of U.S. Treasury bonds is needed, we typically turn to very low-cost ETFs for that exposure.
Across all our client portfolios, bonds comprise between 15% and 20% of the overall investable assets, with the vast majority of that bond exposure being tax-free municipal bonds. Not dissimilar to equities, we are always on the lookout for value opportunities. Over the years, we have traditionally found the most opportunities among investment-quality bonds within the municipal bond space.
We utilize bonds predominantly within balanced equity/fixed income/non-traditional asset portfolios. However, we also manage fixed-income-only accounts, which have lower advisory fees compared to balanced accounts.
